Philadelphia, PA- The men's basketball team started out 2008-09 on a winning note with a "w" over West Chester University by a score of 74-61. The Deacons used a balanced attack which saw 11 different players get on the floor and into the scoring column. Bloomfield begins the year at 1-0 and West Chester falls to 0-1.
The Deacons began the first half jumping out to a 24-11advantage within the first ten minutes of play. Bloomfield would shoot 51% from floor making 16 of 31 shots in period 1 and used stellar defense to hold West Chester to 39% from the field. The Deacons would enter the break up 40-29.
In period 2 BC continued their hot shooting, making 56% of their shots to maintain the 11 point advantage that they posted in the first half. Ten minutes into the second half West Chester would cut the Deacon lead to 8, but that would be as close as they would come as the Deacons continued to make key shots down the stretch to close out the victory.
Omari Knox led the offensive charge for BC, going 6-15 from the field and scoring 16 points.
Gage Daye and Roahnn Sheppard each posted 9 points and
Ahmad Harris and
Emery Mitchell both put up 8 in the win. Harris also had a game high 4 steals.
The men will look for their second win of the year tomorrow when they take on Edinboro University at 1pm at the West Chester Tipoff Tournament.
