West Chester, PA- The Deacon men played their second game of the West Chester tip-off tournament today, falling to Edinboro University by a score of 74-65. The Fighting Scots, now 2-0, were the only team to go unbeaten at the tournament. The Deacons finish opening weekend 1-1 and will be back in action next Saturday when they travel to UDC.
Edinboro got out to a good start in the first half and quickly gained a 22-12 advantage within the first ten minutes of play. The Fighting Scots controlled the first half leading by as many as 13 at one point, and shooting 42% from the field. The Deacons were 11-28 shooting in the first half and took an 8 point deficit into the break.
BC shot out of the gates quickly in the second half, beginning the period with a 16-5 run to take the lead 44-41. Edinboro would recapture the lead with less than 12 minutes to play but the Deacons stuck close and would retake the lead on an
Elias Brantley jumper, going up 59-58 with 3 minutes to play. Edinboro made key shots down the stretch ending the game on a 16-7 run and also were a perfect 6-6 from the free throw line.
A bright spot in the loss, senior captain
Omari Knox surpassed the 1,000 point plateau for points in his career in the 2nd half of today's game. Knox would finish his milestone game with a team high 20 points and 8 rebounds.
Elias Brantley would also add 9 in the Deacons losing effort.
Gage Daye would chip in 4 assists and
Ahmad Harris had 3 steals.
The Deacons get back into action next Saturday when they travel to Washington, DC to take on UDC. Gametime is set for a 2 pm tipoff.
