Shannon Martin

Bloomfield College junior sweeper Shannon Martin was named 2nd Team All-CACC in voting results released yesterday.  Martin, who was named 1st Team All-CACC in 2008, became the first player from Bloomfield College to receive All-CACC honors in consecutive years since Rachel Adamu was named 1st Team All-CACC in 2003 and 2004.

Martin led a BC defense that saw a decrease in goals against for the third straight year and helped Bloomfield to the best goal differential it has had since becoming a Division II member.  The Deacon’s goal differential of -18 placed them 7th in the conference.

“I was very happy to hear that the coaches recognized Shannon as a top defender in the conference for a second straight year,” said Head Coach Rocco Constantino.  “It’s hard for defenders to get recognition, especially when you don’t play for one of the top teams.  Shannon deserves this honor not only for the way she plays the game, but for her attitude on and off the field and for her leadership.”

Martin started every one of the Deacons games again this year and has started every game for BC during her career.  She was named the team captain in between her sophomore and junior years and has been the vocal leader of the defense since her freshman year.  With just one starting defender and a new goalie returning this season, Martin was called on to be more of a leader, and she thrived in that situation.

In addition to her defensive play, Shannon also added two goals this season for BC, bringing her career total to 4.

Shannon has been everything we have hoped she’d be for our program.  She’s an excellent student, a great teammate and captain and has helped build a foundation that will lead to success for our program in the future,” said Constantino.
