WILMINGTON, DE: The women's volleyball team did all they could to earn a spot in the CACC playoffs, but the help they needed from other clubs never came.
The Lady Deacons closed their 2009 season with a 3-2 victory over the Wilmington University Wildcats on Saturday afternoon, but finished just one game out of playoff contention at 9-10 in CACC play.
Bloomfield fell behind after a 25-22 loss in the first set, but quickly rebounded to take the next two with 25-21, and 25-23 victories to take a 2-1 lead in the match. But the Wildcats would not go quietly, forcing a deciding fifth set with a 25-23 win in set four. But Coach Valbrun's squad dug deep, and with their playoff hopes on the line, engineered a hard-fought 15-13 victory to take the match 3-2.
Ursula Pereira posted 27 kills to lead the Lady Deacons, while
Da'Cheray Thomas posted her best offensive total of the season with 13 kills.
Uerequenia Pereira and
Victoria Henao each posted eight kills in the win.
