Davie, FL- A ninth inning rally fell just short as the Deacons fell to the Sharks of Nova Southeastern University, ranked 8th in the country, by a score of 7-6. The Sharks win improves their record to 21-2 on the season and the Deacons fall to 2-5. BC returns to action tomorrow afternoon when they take on Lynn University.
BC got on the board first, when
Anderson Minyetty led off the game with a triple and was eventually driven in by Kevin Lauranzon on a fielder's choice to lead 1-0. Nova responded with 3 runs in the bottom of the inning, capitalizing on 2 defensive miscues by Bloomfield to lead 3-1.
The Deacons cut it to 3-2 when
Alex Sepulveda led off the inning with a single, was moved to 2nd on a sac bunt by
Jonattan Fernandez, and driven in on a single by Anderson Minyetty.
Nova added a run in the third to move the score to 4-2, then added three more in the fifth to lead 7-2.
BC added a run in the 8th to bring the score to 7-3 when
Delroy Cox drove in
Edgardo Fernandez on a single.
The Deacons would add three in the top of the ninth. Scoring 2 on a double from Edgardo Fernandez, and one more on an rbi single from
Anderson Perez, which was the first hit of his college career.
Anderson Minyetty went 3-4 on the day with an rbi and a stolen base. Edgardo Fernandez went 2-2 with an rbi, and
Alberto Ruiz went 2-3.
Brad Smith takes the loss, pitching five innings allowing 1 earned run on 10 hits, and striking out three.
Rafael Cruz and
Michael Fratto combined to pitch a scoreless 6th,7th, & 8th.
The Deacons take on Lynn University tomorrow afternoon.
