Springfield, MA-  The Deacons split a doubleheader with the Yellowjackets of AIC in nonconference matchup yesterday afternoon at AIC park.  AIC took game 1 on a walkoff homerun in the bottom of the 7th, and BC rallied back from a 3 run deficit to take game 2 10-7.  The Deacons are now 3-12 on the season.

Sean Stimpfel pitched brilliantly in game 1, going 6 innings spreading out 5 Yellowjacket hits and striking out two.  The Deacons threatened in the sixth with 2 runners in scoring position, but came away empty.  Kevin Farrell belted his 2nd walk-off homerun of the season to break a 0-0 tie and give AIC the first game.

Kevin Lauranzon and Ricky Maldonado both went 2-3 in game 1.

The Deacons got on the board first in game 2, adding 2 runs in the top of the 2nd on RBI singles by Alex Sepulveda and Jonattan Fernandez.  AIC quickly erased the Deacon lead by adding 4 runs in the bottom of the inning and 1 more in the bottom of the third to go up 5-2.  BC cut the AIC lead to 1 when an error in the 4th inning on a ball hit by Alex Sepulveda scored 2 Deacon baserunners to make the score 5-4.

AIC pushed their lead back to three runs in the bottom of the 5th to lead 7-4.  The Deacon offense exploded in the top of the 6th with 6 runs on 6 hits to lead 10-7.  Alex Sepulveda began the scoring with a sac fly to right, and Emilio Fernandez would drive in the tying runs on a 2 rbi triple down the right field line.  Kevin Lauranzon then doubled in Fernandez, and scored on a single by Ricky Maldonado.  Maldonado then stole second and was driven in by Alberto Ruiz to push the Deacon lead to 10-7.  Dave Ricci and Jon Walsh would retire AIC 1-2-3 in the 6th and the 7th to seal the victory.

Steve Godowski picks up his first win of the season, going 5 innings allowing 4 earned runs and striking out 4.  Jon Walsh picks up his first save of the season.  Alex Sepulveda finished 1-2 with 3 rbi.  Alberto Ruiz went 3-4 with an rbi, Edgardo Fernandez went 2-4, and Jonattan Fernandez went 2-3 with an rbi in the win.

The Deacons return to action tomorrow when they take on Adelphi University at home.
