Rockland County, NY- The Bloomfield Baseball team got back on track this afternoon with a CACC double-header sweep of Dominican College at Veterans Field. The Deacons rallied offensively with 9 extra base hits in the sweep. Bloomfield is now 2-3 in conference play and 5-15 overall, Dominican falls to 11-8 and 4-4 overall.
The Deacons got on the board in the top of the first putting up 3 runs on rbi singles from
Alberto Ruiz and
Chris Rosa. BC pushed their lead to 5-0 in the top of the third, on another rbi single from Ruiz who knocked in
Ricky Maldonado who had doubled earlier in the inning. A defensive miscue by Dominican led to the Deacons' fifth run. Dominican cut the Deacon lead to one putting up a four spot in the bottom of the third to make the score 5-4.
The Chargers would add two more in the fifth to take a 6-5 lead. Bloomfield tied the game in the 7th on a sac fly off the bat of Ruiz, scoring
Kevin Lauranzon to make the score 6-6. The Deacons added the winning run in the ninth, when
Jonattan Fernandez led off the inning hustle-double down the right field line, and was bunted to third by
Anderson MInyetty.
Emilio Fernandez then hit a ground ball to short with the infield in and Jonattan took off for home on the throw to first, diving around the catcher to give the Deacons a dramatic 7-6 lead.
Rafael Cruz came in to lock down the win in the ninth for his first save of the season. Ricky Maldonado went 3-4 with three doubles,
Alberto Ruiz went 2-3 with 3 rbi and
Jonattan Fernandez went 2-3.
Jon Walsh pitched 5 innings, allowing 6 runs on 10 hits and striking out 5.
Brad Smith came on in relief earning his first collegiate victory, and
Edwin Cruz and
Michael Fratto both pitched scoreless innings.

In game two the Deacons got up 2-0 in the second inning when
Anderson Perez hit a 400+ foot, 2-run opposite field blast for the first homerun of his college career. Dominican tied the game at 2 runs each in the bottom of the third inning, but Bloomfield would regain the lead at 3-2 when
Chris Rosa doubled in
James Seck who had doubled earlier in the inning. The Deacons added their fifth run in the fifth inning when Alberto Ruiz doubled in Emilio Fernandez who had walked and stole second base earlier in the inning.
Steve Godowski picks up his second win of the season, pitching a complete game 4 hitter, allowing 0 earned runs and fanning 5. Alberto Ruiz and Chris Rosa were both 2-3 with an rbi.
