Newark, NJ- In the Deacons first game ever at West Side Park in Newark,
Steve Godowski pitched 8 2/3 innings of no-hit baseball leading the way to a one-sided 12-0 win over Caldwell College. The Deacons pounded out 16 hits en route to the victory. Bloomfield improves to 11-5 in CACC play and 14-17 on the season. Caldwell drops to 11-18 on the season and 5-11in conference play.
BC put up a two spot in the second on a 2-out rbi single from
Alex Sepulveda to go ahead 2-0. The Deacon bats struck again in the third, pounding out 8 hits and 7 runs to go up 9-0.
Emilio Fernandez and
Ricky Maldonado knocked back to back doubles for the Deacons 1st run of the inning.
Kevin Lauranzon then doubled in Maldonado for the 2nd run. The Deacons would receive rbi singles from Sepulveda,
Jonattan Fernandez, and Maldonado in the inning.
BC made the score 10-0 in the 5th when
Alberto Ruiz drove in Emilio Fernandez. The Deacons added 2 more in the 7th to make the score 12-0 on sac fly from Lauranzon and an rbi hit by pitch by Tony Addone.
Steve Godowski picks up his fifth win of the season, giving the Deacons pitching staff their first complete game shutout of the season. Godowski went 8 2/3 innings without allowing a hit, striking out 11Caldwell hitters, and walking only 3.
Emilio Fernandez was 3 for 6, Ricky Maldonado was 4 for 5, Alex Sepulveda was 3 for 4 and Jonattan Fernandez was 2 for 5 in the win.
The Deacons travel to Adelphi tomorrow afternoon for a non-conference game before returning to CACC play this Friday when they begin a 3-game series against Chestnut Hill. Game time is set for 3pm.
