Baseball Sweeps Nyack

Bloomfield, NJ-  The Deacons baseball team took a huge step forward in the CACC standings with a sweep of Nyack College.  Bloomfield got solid starts from Brad Smith and Sean Stimpfel and put up 21 runs on 24 hits in the wins.  Nyack drops to 6-4 in CACC play and is now 10-7 overall.  The Deacons improve to 6-4 in conference play and take their overall record to 9-16.

Game 1 recap:
Nyack got on the board first in the top of 4th putting up a 4 spot on a grand slam.  The Deacons answered in the bottom of the inning when Kevin Lauranzon hit a 2 run homer to bring the score to 4-2.  The Deacons would take the lead in the bottom of the 5th when a bases loaded single by Emilio Fernandez cut the score to 4-3.  Ricky Maldonado then hit a curveball over the left centerfield fence for a grand slam and a 7-4 Deacon lead.  Nyack would add a run in the 6th to cut it to 7-5, but BC would tack on an insurance run in the 8th on a sac fly off Lauranzon's bat. 

Sean Stimpfel picks up his 2nd win, going 6 strong innings allowing 3 earned runs and striking out 4.  Jon Walsh locked down his 3rd game of the season, pitching the final three innings to pick up the save. Alberto Ruiz was 3 for 3, Chris Rosa was 2 for 3 and Anderson Minyetty was 2 for 4.

Game 2 recap
The Deacons quickly jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first.  Ricky Maldonado began the scoring with an rbi single, and Alberto Ruiz scored Emilio Fernandez on a sac fly.  Nyack cut the lead to 2-1 on a solo homer off the bat of CACC player of the year Cody Levins.  Bloomfield added 6 more in the bottom of the third to lead 8-1.  Chris Rosa scored Maldonado on a fielder's choice, and Jonattan Fernandez plated two Deacons on a 2 rbi double.  Emilio Fernandez would follow suite with a bases loaded double that drove in 3 more Deacons.  Bloomfield would add 6 more in the 6th on a Lauranzon rbi double and a 2 rbi single from Jonattan Fernandez.

Brad Smith pitched a complete game for his 2nd victory of the season.  Smith scattered 9 Warrior hits, allowing 4 earned and fanning 4.  The Fernandez twins finished game 2 a combined 5 for 8 with 7 rbi (Emilio 3-5, 3 rbi; Jonattan 2-3, 4 rbi).  Anthony Addone went 2 for 3 and Ricky Maldonado went 2 for 4.

The Deacons return to action this Easter Monday when they take on USP at home.  Game time is set for a 3pm start.
