Highland (Va.) High School senior Ashleigh Williams (a member of Bloomfield College’s 2009 softball recruiting class) has received multiple awards after a successful senior season for the Hawks.
Williams led Highland to the Virginia Independent School State Tournament Final and an overall record of 19-4. For her efforts, Williams was named 2nd Team All-State in Viginia and was a Delaney Athletic Conference First-Team selection as a pitcher. A two-time All-Met selection for the Washington Post, Williams was also named the MVP of the Grand Strand Tournament in South Carolina and was named to the HIT All-Tournament Team.
Also a member of the highly regarded Wagner’s Gold 18U summer team, Williams enjoyed a tremendous season at the plate and in the pitcher’s circle for Highland. Splitting her time between 3rd and pitcher, Williams ended the season with a .545 batting average and .873 slugging percentage. She hit safely in 20 of Highland’s 23 games in 2009 and also did not make an error all season.
Williams was equally impressive in the pitcher’s circle. She finished with an 11-1 record and hand a miniscule 0.21 ERA, allowing just two earned runs all season. In 67 innings pitched, Williams struck out 110 batters and showed amazing control, walking just two batters all season.
The signing of Williams will go a long way towards keeping the Deacons strong as they look to replace graduating seniors Vickie Berardi in the lineup and Fauna Ryerson in the pitching staff. She joins incoming freshmen Ashton Corley (San Diego, CA), Krystina Poloni (Pearl River, NY) and Caroline Sincaruk (Newark, NJ) in what Head Coach Rocco Constantino hopes to be an impact recruiting class for a BC program coming off a 2009 campaign in which they finished 33-15.
