Bloomfield's cross country teams had a solid showing in their second meet of the season Saturday afternoon, with the men finishing in tenth place with a total of 264 pounds at the Delaware Valley College Invitational. The women, led by sophomore
Mercy Puma, finished fourteenth in the 6K event with a total of 366 points.
The men's team was paced by junior Nicholas Kipkosgei, who finished in 29'th place in the 8k event with a time of 29:32.5. Senior
William Walsh was the next Deacon to complete the race, crossing the finish line with a time of 30:05.5, good for 43'rd place. Sophomore
Elson Smajlaj rounded out the top 50 of the men's event, narrowly beating Chris Senske of Ursinus College with a time of 30:25.3, just two tenths of a second faster than Senske. Sophomore
Devang Patel finished in 85'th place with a time of 32:23.8, with freshman
Steven Bowman and
Moses Rotich finishing in 102'nd and 115'th respectively.
Puma was the top finisher in the women's race, placing 70'th with a time of 29:13.3. Junior
Vanessa Lamison was the next Deacon to cross the finish line, placing 105'th with a time of 31:53.4, and freshman
Bertina Beaubrun was not far behind, coming in 108'th with a time of 32:10.3.
Shakiyrah Bishop was the next Deacon finisher with a time of 32:43.8, good for 111'th place. Three Lady Deacons rounded out the top 130, with
Dre'Shonda Williams, #Robyn Burton and Deana Dedovitch finishing in 124'th, 126'th and 130'th respectively.
The squads return to action next Saturday with a trip to the Wilmington University Invitational. The women's race is scheduled to begin at 10:00 AM, with the men's race set to start 11:00 AM.
