BLOOMFIELD, NJ - The women's basketball team moved to 4-1 in CACC play Tuesday night, using a stingy full-court press to stifle the Golden Falcons of Felician College en route to a decisive 63-47 victory in the Deacons' Den.
The Lady Deacons suffocated the Falcons from the opening tip, forcing 26 turnovers and limiting the Felician offense to just 30% shooting from the field in 40 minutes of play. The relentless pursuit also yielded seven steals, and allowed Bloomfield to hold the Falcons to just 17 points in the first half.
Coach Wimberly's squad was able to expand their 31-17 halftime advantage in the final 20 minutes of play, outscoring the Falcons 36-26 in the second stanza. Coupled with a balanced offensive attack from the opening tip, the Lady Deacons put forth one of their most complete performances of the season in their most important game to date, gaining a one-game advantage over the Falcons in the CACC North Division playoff hunt.
Center
Tiffany McDaniel was a force in the paint for the Lady Deacons, registering a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds a team high for the evening. Freshman
Dre'Shonda Williams continued her sparkling play, pouring in 14 points and pulling down seven boards in the win.
Regina Washington finished 3-5 from beyond the arch in the victory, totaling nine points while dishing out three assists.
The team returns to action Thursday, January 21 with a home CACC contest against Nyack College. Tip-off is set for 6:00 PM.
