PIKE CREEK, DEL. - The women's basketball team saw their five-game winning streak come to an end Saturday afternoon, as the Goldey Beacom College Lightning scored nine of the game's last 11 points to take a 72-66 decision in Delaware, dropping the Lady Deacons to 7-2 in CACC play.
The North Division's top squad jumped out to a 7-0 lead, but the cushion would be short-lived for Coach Wimberly's squad. The nip-and-tuck battle saw neither team mount a considerable cushion, with the Lady Deacons clinging to a slim 29-28 advantage through the first 20 minutes of play.
The closely-contested matchup continued through the game's second frame, with both clubs refusing to budge. But in the game's waning moments it was the Lightning who prevailed, closing out the Lady Deacons with a 9-2 run and keeping Bloomfield at bay by connecting on 16 of their 24 second-half free throws to ice the win.
Dre'Shonda Williams was the top scorer for the Lady Deacons, notching 15 points and keeping BC in the contest throughout her 39 minutes of action.
Milani Malik was rock-solid from the perimeter, coming off the bench to tally 13 points in just 15 minutes of play, and
Regina Washington notched 11 points while connecting on two of her five three-point attempts.
The team returns to action Thursday, February 4 with a home CACC contest against Dominican College. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 PM.
