Bloomfield College softball recruit Angie Yoshizu (Kaneohe, HI/University Laboratory School Class of 2010) was among 60 Hawaiian high school athletes who recently participated in National Signing Day ceremonies at the Sheraton Hotel in Waikiki. Yoshizu, a speedy shortstop with an extensive softball background, will look to make an immediate impact in the Deacons’ infield as a freshman during the 2010-2011 year.
“Angie is everything we look for in a recruit and we couldn’t be more excited that she chose to continue her academic and athletic career at Bloomfield College,” said head softball coach Rocco Constantino. “She is a tremendous talent on the field and has the personality and work ethic we look for in our recruits. Angie is a great student as well and will be receiving a good academic scholarship from BC.”
The gathering at the Waikiki Sheraton featured the best senior athletes in all sports and was sponsored by the Pacific Islands Athletic Alliance and was streamed live by The Honolulu Adviser.
Yoshizu’s game is built on speed and her presence in the BC line up will be crucial to the Deacons’ aggressive offensive style. Bloomfield was 2nd in the CACC in stolen bases last season. Yoshizu participated in the highly regarded NFCA Camp in Las Vegas in 2008 where she recorded the fastest home to first (2.77) and home to home (11.49) times among all infielders in the 2010-2012 classes.
A multi-sport standout, Yoshizu has received numerous awards for her outstanding play. She has been the starting shortstop for the highly successful Pac 5 team which won the Hawaii State Division II championship. She was given the “Impact Player of the Game” Award for her stellar play during the championship game.
She has also participated in many Gold Showcases throughout her career, including the Bay Area Gold Showcase Invitational in which she hit .364 with 4 stolen bases and the Las Vegas JO Gold Showcase in which she went 7-8 with 2 home runs, 2 doubles and 8 RBI.
Bloomfield College has had a history of great shortstops since becoming an NCAA Division II member in 2002.
“A Deacon shortstop has been honored as an All-CACC team member every year but one since we became an NCAA Division II member and I believe Angie will be able to step right in and play on that high level.”
Yoshizu comes from a great athletic family as her older sisters both played highly competitive college softball on the mainland. Rachel Yoshizu was a standout for Azusa Pacific University in Southern California and her sister Mandy played for Creighton University, a top Division I program in the Missouri Valley Conference.
Angie is the daughter of Mark and Jan Yoshizu.
