The 2010 version of BC's softball team was supposed to feature the most potent lineup the team has ever fielded as a Division II member.  However, the potent lineup had yet to put together much offense during it's first two days at Disney.  That all changed today when the Deacons swept Bridgewater State University (5-5) by scores of 6-3 and 9-0.

Bloomfield (4-2) fell behind Bridgewater early in game 1 as they scored 3 unearned runs off BC ace Brianne Moore (3-0) in the 1st .  In a strange play with two outs and a runner on 1st in a steady rain, a sharp ground ball towards the middle bounced off of BC's 2nd baseman Sara Locke and rolled all the way to the left centerfield fence.  By the time the ball was retrived, the batter had circled the bases to give BSU a 2-0 lead.  A solo homer tacked on the third run of the inning.

Bloomfield's bats remained quiet the first time through the lineup, but they finally got the breakthrough they needed from freshman Ashton Corley.  The freshman, who has been off to an outstanding start in her career, lined an RBI double to left centerfield to get BC on the board.  Moore then followed with an RBI double of her own as BC closed the gap to 3-2.

Bloomfield would take the lead for good in the bottom of the 5th inning when Amanda Bartels drove a 2 run double to left center and Ashleigh Williams crushed a 2 run homer, the first of her career, to centerfield.

Moore settled down and pitched out of some jams as a tough Bridgewater squad was able to get baserunners throughout the game.  Moore finished strong, to pick up her third win of the young season.  She has allowed just 1 earned run in 20 innings of work so far this year.

In game 2, BC jumped out on Bridgewater right from the start.  Bianka Cosme got things going by stroking a 2 run double to right and Corley followed with an RBI single of her own.

Bloomfield took a 4-0 lead into the third inning when they erupted for 5 runs to take a commanding 9-0 lead.  The big blow of the inning was the first career home run by freshman Krystina Poloni.  Cosme, Moore and Corley all added RBI singles as BC batted around.

Williams finally picked up her first career win, after pitchign well in two losses earlier in the week.  The freshman righty hurled a 5 inning shutout to move to 1-2 on the year.

Bloomfield College is set to wrap up it's trip tomorrow againsst Salve Regina at 1pm.  The weather forecast currently calls for rain all night and into tomorrow, so game time and status is tenuous.
