SPARKILL, NY - The men's tennis team opened their 2010 campaign Saturday, with a 7-1 loss to St. Thomas Acquinas College in non-conference action.
In first doubles,
Luis Perez and
Terry Gibbs were defeated by Nick Cittadino and Killian Wantzan by a score of 8-0. In second doubles,
Andres DeCastro and
Daniel Petner were defeated by Ed Rottor and Nic Jacues by a score of 8-1. The Deacons' lone victory of the match came in third doubles, when
Jolston Wattley and
Jamal Loper defeated Paul Scumman and Mal Gonzalez by a score of 8-3.
In singles action,
Devang Patel was defeated by Nic Jackques in first singles 6-0, 6-0.
Carlos Brufau was topped by Killian Wantzan in second singles by a 6-0, 6-0 margin, and
Daniel Petner was defeated by Nick Cittadino in third singles 6-0, 6-1.
Andres DeCastro was bested by Mal Gonzalez in fourth singles 6-0, 6-1, and
Jamal Loper was topped by Ed Raitor 6-1, 6-2 in fifth singles.
Evan McCall was defeated by Mike Antollini in sixth singles by a score of 6-4, 6-2.
The team returns to action March 25 with their opening CACC contest of the season against Philadelphia University. The match begins at 3:00 PM.
