BLOOMFIELD, NJ - The baseball team fell to 6-21 on the season Wednesday, as they dropped a tough doubleheader to CACC rival Felician College by scores of 6-5, and 9-3 at Westside Park.
The Deacons appeared to be on their way to earning at least a split of the two-game set against the Golden Falcons in Game One, when they took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. After righty
Steve Godowski surrendered an unearned run in the top of the first, he was able to craft five straight scoreless innings to keep the Deacons in the game.
The offense broke through in the bottom of the fifth with a three-run frame, ignited by an
Anthony Fratto RBI double, knotting the score at 1-1.
Edgardo Fernandez followed with an RBI single of his own, giving the Deacons a 2-1 advantage. Fernandez later scored an unearned run after a Felician error, putting the Deacons up 3-1 halfway through the contest.
But Godowski surrendered a three-run home run before recording an out in the top of the seventh, starting a five-run seventh for the Falcons and giving them a 6-3 lead. The Deacons were able to plate runs in the seventh and eighth innings: Third baseman

Emilio Fernandez from third with a sacrifice fly, after Fernandez tripled in the seventh, and
Jose Lebron scored
Edgardo Fernandez with an RBI double in the eighth to draw the Deacons within a run at 6-5. But Bloomfield could not muster a run in the ninth, as the Falcons held on to preserve a one-run victory.

Emilio Fernandez finished 2-5.

In Game Two, starter
Matt Snyder was able to go just two innings for the Deacons, leaving the game with an elbow injury while allowing three earned runs to put the Falcons up 3-0. Felician was able to get to righty
Brad Smith who was able to hold the Falcons in check until the sixth, when they were able to orchestrate a four-run frame to move the lead to 7-0.
The Deacons were able to put up a three-run frame in the bottom of the eighth inning, when Lebron belted a two-run homer, his first of the season. Third baseman
Mike Monaco drove in
Emilio Fernandez with an RBI double with two outs in the inning, moving the score to 8-3. But the Falcons would add a run in the ninth, and the Deacons went quickly in the bottom half of the frame, dropping the 9-3 decision. Monaco was the leading hitter for the Deacons in the loss, finishing his day 2-3 with an RBI.
