PARSIPPANY, NJ - The Caldwell College Cougars took the season series from the baseball team for the second consecutive season Tuesday afternoon, as the Deacons' rivals took both games in their annual series by 5-4, and 2-0 margins at Smith Field.  Bloomfield fell to 6-26 on the season, and 2-12 in CACC play.

In the opener, Deacons starter Steve Godowski surrendered runs in the first three innings, putting the Deacons behind 3-0 in the early going.  But Bloomfield would rally in the top of the fourth inning, when second baseman Edwin Pagan drove in Alex Sepulveda, who had doubled to lead off the inning, with a sacrifice fly to get the Deacons on the board and bring the score to 3-1.

The next hitter to the plate was leadoff man Emilio Fernandez, who crushed a three-run home run over the left field wall to give the Deacons a 4-3 lead.  Godowski would turn the Cougars away in the bottom half of the inning, and keep the Deacons ahead by a run through the sixth inning.

But in the seventh, Caldwell was able to break through with a two-out, two-rbi single that gave the Cougars a slim 5-4 advantage.  The Deacons were unable to muster the tying run in their final two trips to the plate, giving the Game One decision to the rival Cougars.

Godowski went seven strong innings in the loss, surrendering four earned runs on six hits of work.  Christian Rosa finished the game going 2-5 at the plate for BC, with Fernandez' three rbis leading the charge offensively.

In Game two, the Deacons couldn't solve Cougars starter Buddy Riggs, who went the distance surrendering seven hits and no runs.  Bloomfield hurler Brad Smith was outstanding over eight innings of work, surrendering a run in the seventh and eighth innings while walking a single hitter.  But it wasn't good enough to top Riggs, who closed out the ninth inning to give the Cougars a sweep of the two-game set and a 2-0 victory.

Rosa finished the game going 2-4 at the plate, while Fratto, Edgardo Fernandez, Sepulveda, Minyetty and Pagan all notched a hit in the loss.
