NEWARK, NJ - The baseball team fell to 6-23 Saturday afternoon, as they dropped a pair of CACC contests to conference rival Wilmington University at Westside Park.
In the opener, junior southpaw
Sean Stimpfel was outstanding over seven innings of work, allowing a single earned run while walking one and surrendering just seven hits. The Deacons were able to jump out to an early 1-0 lead, when
Emilio Fernandez drove home
Anderson Minyetty, who'd walked, with an RBI ground out in the bottom of the third. The score would remain in favor of Bloomfield until the top of the seventh, when Stimpfel would give up a two-out RBI double to knot the score at 1-1, ending his day with a no-decision.
The Wildcats would break the tie in the top of the ninth, scoring two runs and notching a pair of unearned runs off relievers
Edwin Cruz and
Rafael Cruz to push the score to 5-1, ending the hopes of a late-inning victory. The Deacons were able to muster a run in the ninth off an RBI double by
Edgardo Fernandez, but it would not be enough to take the opener as the Wildcats went on to win Game One 5-2.
Edgardo Fernandez was the leading hitter for the Deacons in the loss, finishing 2-4 with an RBI.
