Deacons tame Cougars 8-1

CALDWELL, NJ - The men's tennis team improved to 3-7 on the season Tuesday afternoon, as they took down the rival Caldwell College Cougars 8-1 in a road CACC matchup.

In doubles action, the duo of Daniel Petner and Andres DeCastro took their first doubles matchup by a score of 8-2, and Jolston Wattley and Jamal Loper were able to give BC a 2-0 advantage with an 8-3 victory.  Terry Gibbs and Evan McCall gave the Deacons a clean sweep of the doubles matches, notching an 8-2 win in third doubles.

In singles action, Petner gave the Deacons a 4-0 lead with an 8-2 victory in first singles, while DeCastro took his second singles match by the same margin. Loper assured a Deacons victory with an 8-4 victory in third singles, and Luis Perez took a tightly-contested 8-6 matchup in fourth singles to put the Deacons up 7-0.  Michael Beeson was unable to give the Deacons a clean sweep of the match, falling in fifth singles 8-2, but Steven Hobart put an exclamation point on the victory with an 8-2 win in sixth singles to give the Deacons an 8-1 victory.

The team returns to action Thursday, April 16 with a road match against CACC rival Chestnut Hill College.
