Caldwell College swept Bloomfield in a doubleheader as the CACC softball season comes close to the end. BC dropped game 1 6-2 and fell 8-1 in the nightcap. The losses leave BC with a 10-14 CACC record but with losses by Post and USP, BC still remains alive for the playoffs.
In game 1, BC jumped on top of All-CACC pitcher Brittany Pulido with two runs in the top of the first inning. With one out,
Brittany DeVries doubled into left centerfield.
Brianne Moore followed with a double to drive in DeVries and
Amanda Bartels hit BC's third straight double to make the score 2-0.
Caldwell answered in the second with 3 runs thanks to numerous BC miscues. With the rain and wind becoming more steady, Caldwell scored three runs when Bloomfield dropped a fly ball with one out and when BC dropped two throws to home that had Caldwell runners nailed.
The Deacons threatened with runners in the 4th, 6th and 7th but couldn;t get a clutch hit in leaving 6 girls on base over the final 4 innings.
Caldwell used a consistent attack in game two, scoring two runs int he 1st, one in the 2nd, and 5 runs over the final two frames to tally the 8-1 win.
BC scored their only run in the 4th when Moore led off with a double, went to third on a single by Bartels and scored on a groundout by
Ashton Corley.
Again the Deacons did manage baserunners all game, but left 9 girls on base.
Bartels went 3 for 3 in game 2 and was 4 for 5 in the doubleheader.
Also of note in game 2 was a 4th inning single by Bianka Cosme which was the junior shortstop's 100th career hit. Cosme is now the 4th Deacon on the current roster with 100 hits joining Nicole Cagnino, DeVries and Moore. Amanda Bartels should be next with 89 career hits.
