PLEASANTVILLE, NY - The baseball team fell to 8-31 on the season Friday afternoon, as they dropped a non-conference matchup to the Pace University Setters 11-2 at Finnerty Field.

The Deacons fell behind the eight ball early, as the setters were able to get to starter Jon Walsh for for seven runs through the first three innings of play.  Coach Watson's squad was able to get one back in the top of the third, as Alberto Ruiz plated Emilio Fernandez with an RBI groundout.  Fernandez was able to get on with a single to lead off the inning, and stole second to put himself in scoring position to engineer the team's first run of the afternoon.

The bullpen combo of Edwin Cruz, Rafael Cruz, Louis Guzman and John Vilichka yielded just an unearned run over the final five innings, but the Deacons' bats were unable to get anything going against a talented group of Setters' arms.  Fernandez notched an RBI on a fielder's choice in the top of the ninth, plating Jose Lebron who'd led off the inning with a walk.  But that would be all the Deacons would get, as they were unable to put together an extended rally to cut into the 11-2 deficit.

Fernandez finished the day going 1-4 with a stolen base and run scored, while Lebron went 1-1 with a walk and a run scored.  Edwin Pagan also notched a base hit, going 1-4 in the loss.

The team returns to action Saturday, April 24 with a non-conference road doubleheader against Queens College.  First pitch is scheduled for Noon.
