Patel places 52nd in Empire State Building Run-Up
Bloomfield Cross Country runner earns medal in invitational race
NEW YORK, NY - Bloomfield men's cross country runner
Devang Patel climbed the 86 flights of one of America's most recognizable landmarks in unprecedented time Tuesday afternoon, as he ran to a 52n'd place finish in the annual Empire State Building Run-up.
The invitation-only race is comprised of a field of runners chosen from upwards of 1,000 applicants, and results are tabulated based on a runner's gender, age, and overall finish. Patel's time of 14:26 up the 1,576 steps to the observation deck of the building placed him 18'th in his age group, 47'th among all male runners, and 52nd overall.
"It's great for Devang to do so well in such a unique event," head cross country coach Jerry Wimberly said. "It's really nice to see our runners entering events out of season, and this particular event is an experience he will never forget."
