Bloomfield College head softball coach Rocco Constantino has announced that Angie Yoshizu (Kaneohe, HI/University Laboratory School) and Kaila Dugger (Mesa, AZ/Mountain View High School) have signed National Letters of Intent to continue their careers as student athletes at Bloomfield College. Yoshizu and Dugger join Lindsey Ciresa, a pitcher/outfielder who transferred from the University of St. Louis in what Coach Constantino figures to be a high impact recruiting class.
The Deacons lose seniors Nicole Cagnino, Brittany DeVries, Sara Locke and Brianne Moore from this year’s senior class.
“Our conference gets more and more competitive each year and we need recruiting classes like this to keep up with the top of the conference,” said Constantino. “Angie, Kaila and Lindsey should not only come right in and start, but I expect them to make a huge impact on the way we play the game.”
Yoshizu is a top defender and possesses tremendous speed on the basepaths. The shortstop participated in the highly regarded NFCA Camp in Las Vegas in 2008 where she recorded the fastest home to first (2.77) and home to home (11.49) times among all infielders in the 2010-2012 classes. Yoshizu has participated in many respected gold showcases and qualifiers against some of the top ASA competition in the country.
As the starting shortstop for her Pac-5 team, Yoshizu was awarded the “Impact Player of the Game” award for her outstanding play during the Hawaii State Division II Championship Game.
Dugger joins the Deacons as a versatile pitcher and utility player after a fine career with the Arizona Storm ASA program. She figures to be one of BC’s top pitchers next season and can play just about anywhere when not in the circle. Dugger was a member of the 2009, 18u ASA State Championship Runners-up and a member of the 2007-2008 team that was a 3-time ASA 18u Tournament Champion and went undefeated at the NFCA Las Vegas Tournament.
Dugger is also an outstanding student who was a recipient of a Bloomfield College Trustee Scholarship and will be majoring in BC’s highly respected Nursing Program.
Ciresa enrolled at Bloomfield College this January and will begin playing with the Deacons next season. The 5’11” righty played her freshmen year for St. Louis University in the Atlantic 10 Conference and figures to be a force in the circle and in the lineup for BC next season. Before St. Louis, Ciresa was a star at Somerville (NJ) High School where she helped her team to the Skylands Conference championship in 2008.
Ciresa batted .617 with 4 homers in 2007 and posted a 0.86 ERA, striking out 112 batters in 61 innings to lead her team. Ciresa hurled 5 no-hitters over her high school career in earning All-Somerset County and All-State Group 2 honors.
“We had a great recruiting class last year, bringing in 3 freshmen who led our team in almost every offensive category in 2010 and we are very happy to add these three girls to that group next year,” said Constantino. “We could start as many as 7 underclassmen next year, all of whom are excellent players and outstanding students. I think that bodes well for the future of our program.”
In addition to Ciresa, Dugger and Yoshizu, the Deacons also expect to get back senior Kira Wagar after she missed 2010 with a medical redshirt. As a junior, Wagar led BC with a .370 batting average and was BC’s best all-around player and was named to the CACC All-Conference Tournament team.
