Kansas City, Mo. (July 12, 2010) -- The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) today announced the NABC Honors Court, with Bloomfield senior guard
Elias Brantley earning the distinguished honor.
The NABC Honors Court recognizes the talents and gifts the young men of college basketball possess off the court, and the hard work they exhibit in the classroom. In order to be named to the Honors Court, an athlete must meet a high standard of academic criteria, including maintaining a cumulative Grade Point Average of at least 3.2, while being a varsity player that is either a junior or senior.
"Elias is very deserving of any accolades he receives," head coach Gerald Holmes said. "He is a man in every sense of the word: reliable, responsible and hard-working. He was a true leader for us on and off the court, and ideal student-athlete. We will certainly miss him next year, but I know he will be extremely successful in his career pursuits after college."
A Mathematics major, Brantley is a Bloomfield College Portrait of Excellence recipient who made a tremendous impact on the Deacons' campus throughout his four years at BC. On the court, Elias was the unquestioned emotional leader of the men's basketball team, helping guide the Deacons as a team captain in both his junior and senior seasons. As a senior, he came off the bench to fill in for injured point guard
Ahmad Harris and provided outstanding on-court leadership, averaging eight points and two assists per contest for a team that reached the CACC Tournament Semifinal.
"I am always extremely happy when our student-athletes received recognition for their achievements in the classroom," Athletic Director Sheila Wooten said. "Elias was one of our finest student-athletes over his time here at Bloomfield, so it is wonderful that he has received recognition from the college basketball coaches of America for his outstanding work on and off the court."
