NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Men's Soccer team has been picked to finish fifth in the annual CACC preseason poll, in results released August 19. The poll is voted on by the league's coaches.
Wilmington University takes the top spot in this year's rankings, earning 133 total points and notching five first-place votes. Dominican College follows the Wildcats, tallying 124 points and three first-place votes, while Holy Family University finished third with 102 points and a single first-place vote. Post University finished just a single point in front of the Deacons in the voting, notching 101 total points and a first-place vote. Coach Falloon's club rounds out the top five, totaling 100 points and registering two first-place votes.
The Deacons
return 20 players from a club that advanced to the CACC Tournament championship game last year. Back is junior forward Terry Gibbs, who finished second on the team with five goals last season. Midfielder Triston Sommerville and forward Dwayne Reid, two of BC’s leaders in 2008, return after suffering injuries in 2009. Sommerville’s 14 assists in 2008 led the CACC, and both will be welcome additions to a club that came within a single goal of a CACC championship.
"We feel have a very good team coming back this year," head coach Peter-John Falloon said. "If we can play together and stay within ourselves, we can do very well this season."
The team opens it's 2010 campaign with a road CACC match against nationally-ranked Wilmington University on September 2. The opening whistle is set for 3:00 PM.
